China State Construction International Holding Limited ("CSCI" or “the Group") has businesses operating accross Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, and overseas regions, and is committed to developing into a highly competitive, world-class construction and infrastructure investment conglomerate. CSCI is well aware of the international trend of sustainable development. In recent years, the Group has been advancing its ESG performance. By integrating sustainable principles including decarbonisation, talent development, quality governance, and contribution to society, etc, into its business and operations. the Group is undertaking steady progress towards a sustainable future.

Developing Innovative Technology to Lead the Revolution of Construction Industry

As a leader in the construction industry, CSCI considers leading the innovation trend as its responsibility. The Group cooperates with academic institutions to develop new products and services jointly. It adopts technologies such as MiC, BIM, DfMA, etc., to reduce on-site person-hours and make projects safer and more efficient. In 2021, CSCI acquired and applied 14 R&D projects of innovative technology, and published seven papers related to innovative technology in cooperation with educational institutions, contributing to scientific and technological innovation.

Furthermore, a joint venture between CSCI and its partners successfully tendered the design, construction, and operation contract for O·PARK2. The O·PARK2 is a commercial and industrial organic waste recycling facility developed by the Hong Kong Environmental Protection Department as part of the plan to establish a food waste recycling network in Hong Kong. In this project, the Group combines innovative technologies, including BIM technology and MiC construction technology, to practice low-carbon and environmentally friendly construction. The Group is committed to shape O·PARK2 as the first project in China to achieve carbon neutrality during construction, setting an exemplary benchmark for sustainable development in the construction industry. In addition, O·PARK2 have adopted innovative materials and technologies for corrosion protection, including fiber cement, iron powder modified cement, high-density cast-in protective layer, etc., to ensure the equipment for the food waste treatment process is acid-resistant and anti-ageing, etc. It helps extend the life of the equipment and contribute to sustainable development.

O PARK2

With the CSCI’s effort, O·PARK2 has been awarded the “Carbon Care Construction (Process) Label” and received the highest Gold (Carbon Neutral) rating, in recognition of the Group’s effort in the pilot carbon-neutral construction project.

To establish its R&D and innovation platform and promoted technology research and applications in various aspects, CSCI found the Institute of Construction Technology, which consists of seven research centers, researching on assembly prefabricated construction, building information model, intelligent construction, medical construction, hotel construction, infrastructure engineering technology and intelligent curtain walls respectively.

Accomplishing Energy Saving Green Buildings with Excellent Environmental Management

As the impacts of climate change and the effects of extreme weather become more pronounced, carbon neutrality has been placed on the global development agenda. CSCI is actively facing the challenges of low carbon transition by reducing carbon emissions from the construction process and accumulating low-carbon construction technologies. It also adopts lower carbon-friendly building design and construction materials to lead the industry toward a low-carbon future.

In the O·PARK2 project, CSCI installed a well-established sewage treatment system to treat construction sewage and reuse a portion of the water used for washing vehicles, saving approximately 36,500 liters of water per year. Also, the Group used energy-saving appliances and equipment, and installed sustainable energy facilities such as solar power panels. Upon completion of the project, CSCI will install solar power panels, and use an intelligent system to monitor daily electricity consumption and power generation to further save energy. Using BIM technology to assist design, CSCI can effectively reduce concrete usage, and replace wooden templates with reusable templates to minimise the use of natural resources. With the commissioning of O·PARK2, the Group expects to reduce about 110,000 tonnes of food waste to be disposed of at landfills in Hong Kong annually , prevent the emission of around 67,000 tonnes of greenhouse gases and handle around 8% of food waste in Hong Kong.

To achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), CSCI actively undertakes corporate responsibilities, it is enthusiastic about public welfare and giving back to society. The Group has set up a "CSCI Caring for the Community Volunteer Branch", headed by the management of the Group and CSCI and aims to serve the community professionally. The organization coordinates volunteer activities for caring for the community, and has established long term partnerships with various charitable organizations in building a corporate brand.

The Volunteer Group services provided the elderly, the unemployed and disadvantaged groups, and the youth with various voluntary services, such as housing repair, urban development, environmental protection, etc. Furthermore, CSCI responded positively Central Government's poverty alleviation policy, shouldering the responsibilities of the revitalization of rural and targeted poverty alleviation. Through targeted donations, it realizes educational support and improves the educational environment in mountainous areas. CSCI also sent staff to inspect on-site, investigating local industries and organizing supportive tourism activities. It also promotedtourism resources and broadened the sales channels of agricultural products in three counties of Gansu by promotion and exhibition.

Looking Ahead to A Sustainable Future

CSCI's fruitful achievements in sustainable development won the support and recognition of many parties. Looking forward to the future, the Group is committed to strengthening investment in sustainable development and actively promoting several initiatives and projects to continue its support for social development. CSCI will focus on accomplishing the "dual-carbon targets" as its core development direction, promoting the development and popularization of green technology, and leading the construction industry and all parties in the value chain to leap towards a sustainable future.
